It usually starts with one awkward part

A bespoke fitting needs making for a one-off refit. A bracket has corroded again because it was metal in a place metal shouldn’t be. A composite layup needs a plug, and machining it is slow and costly. Different parts, same problem — it is bespoke, low-volume marine hardware in a damp, corrosive, UV-harsh environment. That is the call we take every day.

Marine is bespoke, low-volume and brutal on materials — damp, salt, UV and constant load. Nylon shrugs off the corrosion that eats metal, and additive makes the one-offs moulding can’t justify. SLS · Selective Laser Sintering

Tooling-free functional nylon. Max build 165 × 165 × 300 mm, up to 500 × 500 × 750 mm for PA12-CF. PA12, PA12-GF, PA12-CF, PA11 (plant-based), TPU 90A. 1–3 days express, 5–7 days standard. A Formlabs Fuse X1 arrives December 2026, the first in the UK.

FDM · incl. large-format

Engineering-grade & large parts. Max build 500 × 500 × 900 mm (340 × 320 × 340 mm for PPA-CF). PA6-CF, PA12-CF, PA6/12-CF COPA, PA6-GF, PPA-CF, PET-CF, PC-FR, PETG-CF, ASA, ABS. Ideal for large, fibre-reinforced end-use parts, jigs, fixtures and layup tooling. 1–3 days express, 5–7 days standard.

SLA · Stereolithography

High-detail, rigid & flame-retardant. Max build 353 × 196 × 350 mm. Rigid 10K / High-Temp Ceramic-Filled, Tough 2000, Black PU Cast-Like, Flame-Retardant (UL94 V0), ESD, Clear, Flexible 80A. Best for high-detail masters, patterns and stiff ceramic-filled tooling and layup plugs. 1–3 days express, 5–7 days standard.

MJF · Multi Jet Fusion

Durable functional end-use. Max build 380 × 284 × 380 mm. PA12, PA11 Gen2, TPU 01 (Shore A 88–90). Finished vapour smoothed, bead blasted, vibratory polished. Lead time 5–7 working days, standard only — there is no express tier on MJF.

Additive isn’t the right answer for every part, and we’ll always tell you so

The value is putting your budget where additive genuinely beats moulding: lower cost at your volumes, real design freedom, and parts in days instead of tooling lead-times. Where that line sits depends on the part — small parts stay ahead to high volumes; bigger or more complex parts suit additive up to around 10,000 a year, after which moulding takes over. For marine work — bespoke fittings, refit one-offs, composite tooling — additive almost always wins, with no minimum order and no tooling.

Marine 3D printing FAQ

Will 3D printed nylon parts survive saltwater?
Nylon does not corrode the way metal does, which is exactly why it suits marine fittings, brackets and mounts that sit in damp, salty air. For added water resistance we vapour smooth parts, which seals the surface and reduces the porosity that would otherwise take on moisture and dirt. We confirm the material against your service conditions — UV exposure, load and immersion — before we print.
Can you make bespoke one-off fittings for a refit?
Yes, and that is where additive is strongest in marine. There is no tooling and no minimum order, so a single custom fitting for one vessel costs what it costs — no mould to amortise. Send the CAD, or send us the part and we will 3D-scan and reverse-engineer it.
Can you print composite layup plugs and tooling?
Yes — layup plugs, patterns and composite tooling printed rather than machined, which is faster, lighter and far easier to revise when the shape changes. We run these on FDM for larger plugs and SLA where fine surface detail leads.
What is the largest marine part you can print?
Up to 500 × 500 × 900 mm in one piece on industrial FDM. Beyond that, larger parts and plugs are printed in sections then bonded and finished in-house, so size is rarely the limiting factor — tell us the dimensions at quote and we will plan the split.
How fast can you turn a marine part around?
Express lead time is 1–3 days on SLS, FDM and SLA, with 5–7 days standard. MJF runs 5–7 working days, standard only — there is no express tier on that process. When a refit is waiting on one bespoke fitting, tell us and we will put it on whichever process makes the date.
Do you work with boat builders and refit yards directly?
Yes — boat and yacht builders, marine equipment OEMs, naval architects, chandlery, refit yards, and both leisure and commercial operators. Work ranges from a single bespoke fitting to repeatable low-volume components across a build.
Can you make hull or load-bearing structural parts?
No. We are a polymer manufacturer, so primary load-path and class-certified hull components sit outside what we do — we will say so and point you the right way. Our marine work is fittings, housings, brackets, ducting, tooling and bespoke hardware.
Which finishes suit marine parts?
Vapour smoothing is the most useful, because it seals the surface against moisture and dirt. Beyond that we offer shot blast polishing, dyeing, vibro polishing and painting up to A-class, plus threaded inserts and bonded fixings so parts bolt to the vessel properly.
